Sabanalarga
It is a city in the north of Colombia, in the department of Atlántico, being after the capital of Barranquilla and the municipality of Soledad, the most important city. It was founded in 1620 when the first settlers realized the fertility in their land.
The ertility of its soils has turned it into a pantry of the department with the supply of cattle and crops of sugar, cotton, corn and bananas.
SABANALARGA PATRON SAINT FESTIVITIES
These festivities are held from September 24 to 29 in honor of the Virgen de las Mercedes, have a varied program that includes bullfights, a dawn and a musical show by renowned artists
The Harlequin Devils of Sabanalarga
These dances are one of the most representative of our municipality since they when dancing, the dancers demonstrate their dexterity and agility by jumping the bottles to the beat of the drum and flute. then to the rhythm of son de puya, the movements are in pairs, which demands greater dexterity.
This dance, one of the most colorful of the Barranquilla Carnival for 40 years, taught Barranquilla and visitors its history, its rituals, its music and its most representative steps.
The costumes of this dance are made up of masks with mirrors, a multicolored costume, castanets and knife spurs.
Holy Week in Sabanalarga (Atlantic)
It is a religious and cultural event celebrated for more than 260 years, which makes it the oldest celebration in this municipality. From the Friday of sorrows (last Friday of Lent), until the Sunday of resurrection own and visitors gather in the streets and the three temples of the population to live solemnly the 9 processions that take place and liturgical acts typical of the Easter triduum.
